The Gemologist

The founder of the Gemological Identification Laboratory, Mr Mohamed Shabir, has been a lifelong enthusiast for gems and minerals. A profession spanning generations in his family, involving dealings with miners, importing and exporting minerals, and crafting everything from tiny gems to investment pieces, became not just a tradition but a testament to the field's expertise.

This deep-rooted appreciation led Mr Shabir to pursue a professional career in gemology. Holding degrees in Multimedia Technology, Gemology from the GIA, and the ISG, he is a Registered Gemologist and Appraiser. His passion for the subject has inspired him to write a book, 'The World of Corundum', due for completion by the end of 2024.

Mr Shabir is Singapore's youngest gemologist to establish a laboratory. Dedicated solely to serving the gems and minerals market, he currently focuses on completing his book, which requires extensive research drawn from his work with clients and miners. While gemological courses are not currently offered, he may consider starting a lapidary course for a maximum of three students upon request, ensuring personalised attention.
